2016 Canadian Nationals - Thursday 8/18

Tradition manifested the arena in the Thursday morning session upon the entrance of competitors in the Arabian Ladies English Side Saddle Championship. The elegance that traced back into history presented a beautiful glimpse into the past era with a touch of modern show horse. Each exhibitor proved to be smooth and portray an effortless performance as the classical gaits were called. The top two honors in this class both covered ground and were matched with stylish hunter pleasure mounts. The Reserve National Champion title was awarded to O Lordy and Laura Baker, in which is a familiar accomplishment for the Side Saddle veteran. The National Championship honor was awarded to the unique and beautiful bay, Proximus CA, who is owned and bred by Conway Arabians.

Heading into the afternoon session, the Arabian Country Pleasure Driving Championship contained entries of top trainers in the industry. Jim Lowe and Vendettaa made their way back to the winner’s circle in the driving division finishing Reserve National Champion overall. Kevin Price presented Best of Baske VA. This bay gelding was noted the judges as his bright presence, free moving motion, steadiness as a driving horse garnered the National Championship title, unanimously.

Making their way back to the winner’s circle at ‘The Royal Red’, the beautiful team consisting of Ameila Hruben and Shaddo Magniphied receive the National Championship title in the Half-Arabian Hunter Pleasure AATR Select Rider. Winning in both the Halter and Performance divisions, this versatile, chestnut, gelding brought back a big win in this respected class. Primarily and mostly known for his steadfast success with halter horses, Joe Alberti trained this horse to both under-saddle and halter National Championship titles. The nine-time National Champion halter horse brings home Amelia Hruben’s first under-saddle National Champion titled victory making this afternoon session at Canada a memorable day.

The thrill in the English division certainly set president in the Half-Arabian English Pleasure AAOTR 18-39 Championship. The continued support from the spectators raised the bar in this afternoon session, lighting up the atmosphere of this class. Steel Strike entered the arena with an incredible uphill presentation. This class contained multiple different styles of English Pleasure as each individual presented their horses. Rhein Standish and Lookin At Lucky BF sported their Reserve National Championship garland down their victory pass, as this lofty yet impeccable motioned English horse left the arena. Shes So Bad won all three of her regional classes this year at Region 10, both in the Amateur and Open division. Coming off those prestigious wins, Shes So Bad was again crowned the winner, now as National Champion of the Half-Arabian English Pleasure AAOTR 18-39. This beautiful mare has a presence of magnitude that grasps to all around her. Certainly, she resembles her sire, SF Specs Shocwave as she exits the arena with the National Champion honor.

Thursday evening held for an exciting session. Both the Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes Yearling Colts/Gelding Championship and the Arabian Futurity Colts Championship were a captivating classes as Gary McDonald, Jeff Schall, Andy Sellman amongst others presented their horses. Scoring 386.5, the exquisite Delacroixx and Andy Sellman garner the National Championship title in this promising class. With a score of 395.5, the clear winner of the Futurity Colts Championship was evident. Turismo RA and Michael Byatt were crowned the Canadian National Champion in a competitive class of young upcoming colts.

One of the final classes of the night amped up the environment of the Westman Place arena. Toi Sensation CRF and Katie Harvey exhibit a phenomenal performance as this duo stood out throughout the class. Katie’s beautiful light tan suit complimented her bright eyed, refined mare as the two were crowned the National Champion honors in the Half-Arabian English Pleasure AAOTR 40 & Over class. A sensational performance for a sensational team as these two exit the arena with the stands full of crowd support.

Setting the pace for the upcoming final two days of the show, Canadian Nationals continues to grow our community as a family. As riders and trainers prepare for Friday morning’s session, the excitement for the dynamic championship classes leave the spectators and judges anxious for the remainder of the show.
