The Arabian horse community was saddened by the passing yesterday of Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al-Thani, the former Emir of Qatar and grandfather to the present leader of the nation. He was widely recognized as the architect of Qatar’s transformation from one of the poorest countries on Earth to one of the richest per capita through strategic development of energy resources. The Al Thani family has collectively impacted the Arabian breed immeasurably while developing some of the most important breeding programs in the world, not the least of which is the mighty Al Shaqab Stud.
As the elimination rounds continue, hopefuls find themselves one step closer to their ultimate goal…a National championship. It is a long and sometimes circuitous path to travel that takes consistent dedication. In an Arabian Horse Global Network interview, Murray Popplewell of Rae Dawn Arabians talked about going home from his first Nationals elated to have his horse show up on a single judge’s card!
